Citi Business News can confirm that officials of the Ghana Meteorological agency at the Kotoka International Airport have resumed full operations after a temporal suspension last weekend.
It follows the Ghana Airport Company’s decision to issue licenses to enable access to the observatory site of the airport.
[contextly_sidebar id=”6LbEfIzZX3K8lanxoTPnW9mDlLzBrF30″]The suspension was as a result of the Met agency’s refusal to pay for licenses to be issued by the Ghana Airports Company.
Officials of the meteorological agency were adamant as they accused Ghana Airport Company of not paying outstanding debts it owes them.
A temporal license was issued subsequently upon the intervention of the Managing Director of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority.
The officer in charge of the Kotoka division of the Ghana Meteorological Agency, Joe Tetteh Portuphy, who confirmed the resumption to Citi Business News said,
“Since Monday we have resumed operations because they called us for the ID cards and we’ve got access to the observatory site so we are working since we have access to the place we have been giving the weather updates without any hindrance.”
Meanwhile the Ghana Airports is yet to fulfill outstanding debts it owes the Met agency. A meeting involving officials of the Meteorological agency and the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority on the outstanding debts which was held last Thursday, however ended inconclusively.
According to Joe Tetteh Portuphy, the two institutions are however expected to reconvene in the first week of March to continue with discussions.
“Since the GCAA and GACL decoupled, Ghana Airports has not been able to fulfill their part of the bargain, so it is huge money running into millions of cedis. Management met with Civil Aviation on Thursday to see the way forward in how to handle the issue; that meeting ended inconclusively because they promised to meet in the first week of March to finalize issues,” he further explained.
