Residents of Ho,the Volta regional capital had a mirthless celebration of the Christmas season in 2015, as they bore the brunt of an acute water shortage in the municipality.
The taps stopped flowing for four days ahead of Christmas and the situation has remained till date, with no signs of a trickle.
Residents were seen carrying buckets, bowls and gallons on their head and in vehicles mostly at dawn in fruitless search of water.
The few who were lucky fetched from dugouts, streams, ponds and wells at the outskirt of the town.
Sachet water producers cashed in on the situation to make extra sales.
This situation coupled with the lip cracking and skin burning harmattan, affected the celebrations in Ho this time around.
Some residents who spoke to Citi News said“during the festivities there was no water in town; especially those of us living on the storey building, it was difficult for us to get water. The water situation is very bad”
When contacted, Mr. Philip Dwamena Boateng, Ho Municipal Manager of Ghana Water Company Limited, told Citi News they faced some challenges at the Kpeve head-works and that service would be restored today [Tuesday].
He explained that the company has been managing the situation by rationing water to some of the areas after the main line connection in Ho suffered a burst.
