Security personnel at the Aflao border in the Volta Region, on Wednesday evening, seized twelve single barreled rifles from a man believed to be from Benin.
[contextly_sidebar id=”IAZONT3CPoFybwSZmkIROB1K5qrvN6md”]Confirming the arrest to Citi News, the Immigration Commander at the Aflao border Julius Gbordlah, said the twelve weapons were hidden in a fertilizer sack.
“He was carrying a sack and trying to use an unapproved route to Ghana and the officers on patrol intercepted him and upon interrogation we retrieved twelve pieces of the single barrel rifle concealed in a sack”, he said.
He added that the suspect indicated that he was transporting the rifles to Cote D’ivoire and not Ghana.
The suspect, he said, has been handed over to the police for further investigations.
There have been recent arm seizures in other parts of the country raising security concerns particularly ahead of the November elections.
