Former President Jerry John Rawlings has charged the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) to re-ignite the spirit of the probity and accountability ideals of the 31st December Revolution.
Speaking at the 34th anniversary of the 1981 revolution that toppled then president, Dr Hilla Limann of the third Republic, Mr. Rawlings bemoaned the levels of corruption in the country.
“The color of this democracy seems a little to different from what we used to know, from the spirit of defiance that could contain the greed, the selfishness that has given rise to so much corruption and pain in this country,” he said
Former President Rawlings stressed the need to recapture the spirit that stifled corruption saying, “It’s extremely important that we do everything possible to recapture that spirit before it becomes too late.”
He added, “We need to reignite the spirit, the spirit to fight corruption. The spirit to contain greed, selfishness otherwise we may not be able to reach or destination.”
Mr Rawlings further urged Ghanaians to expose individuals that may have profited from corruption post 2000.
“The time has come to start looking at those who profited from the change of the colour, starting from 2000 and those who are profiting from this change in colour.”
