The Police say a Supervisor at the Cantonments Branch of the Koala Shopping Mall, masterminded a robbery attack on one of its staff on Saturday.
Gilbert Osabutey, 36, tipped off four others to rob a staff of the mall whom he believed was on her way to make huge deposits at the bank.
Narrating the incident to Citi News, the Public Relations Officer of the Accra Regional Police Command ASP Afia Tenge said at about 10 o’clock Saturday morning, some armed men on motorbikes accosted a lady, near the American Embassy demanding that she surrendered all monies on her.
“The lady always goes for the daily sales from the mall so the Supervisor contacted others to rob her so they could take the day’s sales from her, but that day the lady did not take the money at all. On realizing that the lady had no money on her, the robbers shot her in the thigh and calf and attempted to escape.” She said.
“A taxi driver who witnessed the incident and wanted to prevent the robbers from escaping blocked the robbers with his taxi cab, causing them to fall in the process, leading to their arrest.”
“So far the police have gathered that this whole act was masterminded by a Supervisor at the Koala Shopping Mall. He engaged four other accomplices to perpetuate the act,” ASP Afia Tenge revealed.
Based on the investigations we have conducted, we believe more people are connected to the case so we are still investigating the matter”, ASP Afia Tenge added.
The Accra regional Police Commander, COP George Akuffo Dampare, yesterday visited the victim at the hospital and tells Citi News she is responding to treatment.
