A seven member committee has been constituted to investigate the reports that the headmaster of the Mfantsipim Senior High School in the Central Region charged unapproved fees.
The Headmaster, John Kobina Ankomah Simpson was asked to step aside last week over the issue.
[contextly_sidebar id=”s8ob718aJTndemuzf5VGhm5Nz1RawBGp”]A statement from the Ghana Education Service said “as a result of the collection of illegal fees from students of Mfantsipim School, you are directed to immediately step aside from responsibilities as the Headmaster of the school, pending further investigations into the illegal collections.”
The Central Regional Director of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Batholomeaw Kwame Ofori confirmed the latest development to citifmonline.com.
“We have set up a committee to investigate his conduct for overcharging boarders in the school. The committee members would meet tomorrow to commence the investigation,” he added.
John Kobina Ankomah Simpson has been the head of the school for only ten months.
Government has been waging a war against charging of illegal fees in public schools in the country.
Despite approved fees sanctioned by government some heads of schools go further to charge more thus overburdening parents.
In 2015, nine head teachers of some basic schools who overcharged the registration fees for Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) were demoted to the rank of teachers.
