More than a year after Ghana’s Central Medical Store was razed to the ground by fire, a report on the incident has confirmed someone deliberately set fire to the facility.
The Central Medical Store is where the country’s medical equipment and drugs are stored for onward distribution across the regions.
Over two hundred million cedis worth of drugs and equipment were destroyed in Tema which nearly crippled healthcare delivery.
Before the fire, the then Health Minister Dr. Kwaku Agyeman-Mensah had initiated investigations into allegations of corrupt practices at the store.
The current Health Minister, Alex Segbefia, says the report when released today [Friday], will give more details about their findings.
“While we rebuild the new Central Medical Stores, the report of the Central Medical stores will be made public and once that is done, we can give a little bit more light on what’s happening with the stores.”
