A Justice of the High Court, His Lordship Justice Ringo Cass Akurugu Azumah, has been dismissed by the judiciary for repeatedly absenting himself at the court.
In the statement signed by the Judicial Secretary, Justice Alex Poku-Acheampong on Tuesday January 19, to announce the removal of two High Court Judges, Justice John Ajet-Nasam and Justice Ernest Obimpeh, it also announced that “President Mahama has directed the removal of His Lordship Justice Ringo Cass Akurugu Azumah from office as the Justice of the High Court on grounds of stated misbehaviour and incompetence.”
[contextly_sidebar id=”AJCreFANIq9EyjORYA2Zn6ehXZVW1GqJ”]In his case, the statement says several complaints of absenteeism were filed against the judge by users of the court and a leading legal firm.
According to the statement, a committee was formed to hear the complaints brought against the absentee judge after which it was decided that he be dismissed for continuously relegating his duties sometimes without permission.
The committee’s recommendations were accepted by the President hence his removal.
The statement said Justice Azumah is to hand over his bungalow and all property in his possession including the official government vehicle, dockets, and record books to the Judicial Secretary forthwith.
