Christmas celebrations like in many other parts of the world are happy moments for family and friends.
In the Western Region, it is a day where large number of people and masqueraders are brought together to celebrate the West Side Carnival; an annual event for the gathering of masquerading groups in the region.
Ahead of the festive season, notices are sent to identifiable masquerading groups both home and abroad to register with Skyy Media Group, organizers of West Side Carnival.
Registered groups are then seen especially late in the afternoon rehearsing on some principal streets of Sekondi Takoradi.
December 24th is the date for final preparations by which time, many participants especially those from around the world have settled down for the event.
The street of Takoradi Amanful is usually used as the celebration grounds for the West Side Carnival on December 25th. Both young and old, clad in their colorful masquerading dresses dance to the “Anchors a’ teetee” tunes.
They dance to display their dancing skills.
What usually makes the event interesting is the scary masquerades spotted at the carnival.
The carnival is climaxed on the night of December 25th where celebrants are treated to music made from artist in the Western Region.
It’s been 10 years since the beginning of the celebrations of West Side Carnival and it has been sponsored consistently by MTN and Fanmilk Ghana among others.
