The New Patriotic Party in the Gomoa West constituency in the Central Region has chastised the District Chief Executive of the area for making the assembly rank last in the District League Table.

They further accuse the DCE, Theophilus Aidoo Mensah and his National Democratic Congress government of non-performance over the years.

[contextly_sidebar id=”SFD7TzLIqEzOBp2Qk9tNPT9C9YStOvMF”]The Tema Metropolitan Assembly in Accra occupied the first place in the 2015 Ghana district League table while the Gomoa West District managed with the last place.

Addressing the press at the district capital, Apam, the NPP constituency chairman, Bismark Nkum said “the ruling NDC has woefully failed the district in all the six indicators used for the survey.”

Education
According to Bismark Nkum the district has done little in the education sector.

He said “the dwindling standards of education in Gomoa West is a major hurdle to cross as it recorded thirty percent (30%) pass rate in the Basic Education Certificate Examination over the last two years. This has been attributed variously to lack of educational facilities, teachers, learning and poverty levels.”

He argued that when voted into power, the NPP will revive “the collapsed” school feeding program and make SHS really free in the district.

Sanitation
On sanitiation, the NPP constituency Chairman argued that “the oldest district in the Central Region cannot boast of any toilet facility, since filth and open defecation has become the order of the day.”

Health
On health, the chairman bemoaned the lack of medical facilities within the district. According to him, “the people of Gomoa West have access to only one hospital built by the Catholic Church, few clinics and CHPS compound in the surrounding villages but the latter has little or no resources to work with.”

He said about 60% of pregnant women in the area deliver at home which is an indication that the health sector is worse of.

Bismark Nkum also noted that the district lags behind in security and governance.

“The Police in the district is the least resourced in the whole of Ghana, the expected Police to population ratio of 1:500 has risen to about 1:5000 making security inadequate for the citizens,” he added.
