The Electoral Commission (EC) says it is yet to receive an official report from the five member panel set up to look into calls for a new voters’ register.
The EC’s response follows some reports in the media suggesting that the panel has submitted its report and has concluded that a new register be compiled.
[contextly_sidebar id=”l1Y0KZ9Mq7AopN4ap9Jkn8ElWJKhe4Io”]But the Commission in a statement signed by its Director of Public Affairs, Christian Owusu Parry described the reports as “false”.
The statement clarified that the panel is yet to finalize its work, adding that no report had been submitted to the Commission yet.
“The Commission has learnt of various false reports circulating in the media, that the panel of eminent persons engaged to study various submissions on the voters register has submitted its report to the Commission.
“The Electoral Commission wishes to inform the general public and the media that the panel is yet to complete its work and no report has been submitted to the Commission. The public is therefore entreated to disregard the reports circulating in the media. “
The EC assured Ghanaians that “they will be informed of the recommendations of the panel and the final decision taken by the Commission on the register as soon as the requisite processes are concluded.”
The panel as part of measures to consider calls for a new voters’ register held a two-day public forum last month during which various political parties civil society and other stakeholders, made their submissions on the matter.
The panel is expected to analyse the submissions and come up with a final decision.
