The first emergency 225 Mega Watts capacity power barge from Turkey is to set sail towards Ghana from Ivory Coast today, 23rd November, 2015.

[contextly_sidebar id=”Ovjle9U4C6qcTvFdrbeuSI85M6o2ldtx”]The barge is expected to arrive in Ghana by Friday November 27, 2015.

This comes after the Black Marlin, a speed deck cargo ship transporting the power barge arrived in Abidjan  on Sunday.

The Black Marlin arrived in Turkey on Saturday November 7, and departed Istanbul with the power barge in just an hour same day, according to information on  marinetraffic.com.

The Black Marlin was estimated to arrive at the port of Cote d’Ivoire on November 22, 2015, 15 days after takeoff, according to the marinetraffic.com arrived scheduled.

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the power barge will be released to sail to Tema Port pulled by two speed boats which will take approximately 5 days to finally dock at the Tema Port.

The power barge was originally scheduled to dock at the Tema Port in the first quarter of this year, but this has since been rescheduled three times.

The emergency power barges form part of government’s immediate interventions to address  the shortfalls in power supply.
