The Police Administration has dispatched personnel from the elite units of the service to Bunkpurugu in the Northern Region, to restore calm, following the disturbances that broke out in the area over the weekend.
According to the Police, the contingents drawn from the Counter–Terrorism and the Formed Police units of the service, have firm instructions to stabilize the situation and maintain law and order.
[contextly_sidebar id=”xHbzBu9IWcxdcsqmhfiAY9Ugo7oj4zYw”]The Police while assuring the public of bringing the situation under control, cautioned perpetrators of the crime to “desist from it to avoid being arrested and prosecuted for flouting the laws of the land.”
Meanwhile, a joint team of the police and military personnel are on the ground bringing the situation under control.
“The Police wishes to entreat any aggrieved persons to resort to the law in seeking redress rather than taking the law into his or her own hands.”
70-year old shot dead
A 70-year-old man was shot dead on Monday morning following continued gunshot exchanges in the area.
The deceased, Namka Babin, was hit by a stray bullet during the shootings.
Also, a 25-year-old student of the Bunkprugu Senior High School, Adam Biitak, sustained severe gunshot wounds while more than 20 thatched houses have been burnt.
