The campaign team for Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, New Patriotic Party Parliamentary Candidate for Ofoasi-Ayirebi in the Eastern Region, has taken on an NDC parliamentary aspirant in the Bibiani Ahwiaso Bekwai constituency of the Western Region, for alleged plagiarism.
The NDC’s Moses Karma is said to have copied the former Radio Show host’s campaign photo and message, which were splashed on social media during the NPP’s primaries.
In what appears like a Photoshop of Mr. Oppong-Nkrumah’s photo, Moses Karma who is set for the party’s primaries on Saturday November 21, appears in a similar white long sleeves shirt and a blue pair of trousers, and the same wrist watch, with the only difference being the NDC colour in the photo.
[contextly_sidebar id=”N6b7cNZQIzwY3WnZXKQuAWIPkPteYapY”]Mr. Oppong Nkrumah’s campaign team in a statement issued on Friday, condemned the act by the aspiring MP, and warned it may take action to protect the copyrights inherent in Mr. Nkrumah and the NPP’s communication materials.
Meanwhile the Graphic Designer who did the artwork for Mr. Oppong-Nkrumah, Lurick Osei Annor, has also taken to his Facebook page to condemn the act.
Below is the statement by Mr. Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah’s campaign team
The Campaign team of Mr Kojo Oppong Nkrumah NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Ofoase Ayirebi, has taken notice of an act of plagiarism of Mr Nkrumah’s campaign paraphanelia being used in the ongoing NDC primaries in the Bibiani Ahwiaso Bekwai constituency by campaigners for one of the candidates in the NDC primaries- Mr Moses Karma.
Mr Karma’s campaigners have doctored a widely circulated poster of Mr Nkrumah, and have replaced Mr Nkrumah’s face with that of the NDC candidate and have superimposed their candidates face on Mr Nkrumah’s body in the said poster.
Additionally they have deleted NPP symbols and Mr Nkrumahs campaign hashtags and have instead replaced it with that of their candidate.
Finally, they have copied Mr Nkrumah’s taglines and values in a bid to market their candidate in a manner akin to how Mr Nkrumah was marketed in the NPP primaries.
The totality of the modifications to the poster and the attempt to make it appear as the work of the NDC candidate is an act of plagiarism which must be condemned.
While we are flattered that our communication materials are attractive to the NDC campaigners, we implore the candidate and his team to develop their own original materials and utilise for their campaign.
Politics should be about truth and values and not fabrications.
We shall not hesitate to take all necessary steps to protect the copyrights inherent in Mr Nkrumah and the NPPs communication materials.
