The Asawase Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Isaac Brenya, and seven others, have been arrested for the murder of  Sadiq Abubakar, a member of the party.

The 37-year- old was stabbed to death last Friday by unknown assailants for allegedly threatening to beat up the Constituency Chairman who is believed to have made unpleasant comments about the flagbearer of the party, Nana Akuffo-Addo.

[contextly_sidebar id=”iq7G0zfny7dicSnQYtmpxGR7UQRt5Bhe”]Addressing journalists at a news conference in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Kofi Boakye, said the police will carry out a fair investigation to ensure that justice is served.

He says the matter is purely criminal and not political.

“This is a mega investigation devoid of any partisan, tribal or any sectional consideration; therefore we would like people to allow the police to do their work. We do not know any faction, we don’t know any political party. All that we know is that somebody has been killed. Our question is who killed him? What weapon was used to kill him?Was the killing unlawful and if all these questions are answered in the affirmative, then we have a murder on our hand. Because of the serious nature of the crime, the investigation is under the direct command of the regional commander and under the direct supervision of the crime office.”

DCOP Boakye further disclosed that some persons who conspired to vandalize the party’s offices have also been arrested.

“I must state here and now, that our investigation did not reveal the presence of anyone called 50 cent at the scene of crime. The following persons who conspired to vandalize the party’s offices have also been arrested and they are Awal Mohammed and Tank Abubakar.”

The Police is on a manhunt for the main suspect, Abubakar Mahama alias Duna who according to DCOP Boakye actually stabbed the victim and one other suspect, Lebu, who was holding a locally manufactured pistol.
