The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has told Citi Business News it will allow court procedures to proceed in determining the fate of customers of the Sunyani branch of DKM Microfinance Company whose monies have been locked up.
[contextly_sidebar id=”MxXorrruHftAoTbIp53NAusRVrhrTbMR”]The Deputy Head of other financial institutions supervisory of the Bank of Ghana, Osei Bonsu Kwame Sarpong, in an interview with Citi Business News said their involvement in the matter will be interfering with the work of the court.
“Once a matter is before the court, there is nothing BoG can do, some of the customers sent the company to court and the judge ruled that the company should provide a schedule of the mode of payment for the affected customers,
“It was also to provide the court with a bank statement so in this regard once the matter is before the court, we in the Bank of Ghana will have to wait, that is our position,” he said.
Some customers of the Sunyani branch of DKM microfinance dragged the company to court to compel management to pay them their monies that have been locked up in the financial institution.
Brong Ahafo regional correspondent, Kwadwo Brefo reports that the court presided over by Justice Frederick Kyere ruled that DKM submits its statement of accounts and all documents in the name of the company to it (court).
Meanwhile two managers of the bank, Richard Xavi and Gyetuo Ivan have both been granted bail to the tune of GH¢ 500,000 to be justified including two sureties.
Kwadwo Brefo however reports that some of the customers belonging to youth groups such as the association for the deaf and dumb have threatened to take action against government if it does not intervene to ensure their monies are duly paid to them.
