The Controller and Accountant General, Grace Adzroe has indicated that her department cannot be blamed for delays and other problems associated with the salaries of public sector workers.
[contextly_sidebar id=”9FZV9no4c7kuIiKKm1V76dRhWKxrBkND”]Many public sector workers have recently complained and protested over the delays in processing their salaries.
Not long ago, some junior doctors who had not been paid for several months picketed at the offices of the Controller and Accountant General’s Department to demand their salaries.
Other disgruntled public sector workers also did same.
But addressing a forum on accountability, the Controller and Accountant General explained that they only process information provided by the ministries, departments and agencies, (MMDASs) and that one they delay, if affects their work.
“There is a lot of misconception about payroll, preparation of payroll, responsibility for the payroll, monitoring of the payroll and ensuring the integrity of the payroll data. I use this opportunity to indicate that about 90 percent of the payroll has to be done by the heads of departments. Controller only acts as an agent or bureau that as you bring your data, it is processed. But there is this misconception that it is the Controller that prepares. Yes; Controller prepares based on the information by the MDAs” she emphasized.
