The celebration of this year’s Fire Festival in the Northern Region recorded casualties with two persons losing their lives and several others injured.
In one gruesome incident at Walewale, the deceased was butchered with a cutlass.
[contextly_sidebar id=”yVP2B7S44sNl1o4bo9VwTsuFPDIZlBze”]The other incident was recorded at Sank in the Mion district, where a truck ran into some celebrants on Sunday injuring many others.
Confirming the incident to Citi News, the Public Relations Officer of the Northern Regional Police Command ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, said four other persons were critically injured in separate incidents in the region.
“In Sank in the Mion District, during the celebration, a driver of a tipper truck ran into the celebrants and one person died on the spot. So the celebrants became incensed and chased the driver but he managed to abscond and they burnt his truck. There was another incident in Walewale where during the celebration, somebody also used a cutlass to kill one other person”he added.
He stated that some parts of the region also recorded some violent incidents leaving some persons with critical injuries.
“We recorded another incident in Tamale where a 23 year old woman who was also hit by a gunpowder shot. She sustained severe burns to her face and eyes. Also at Chamile at about 11:00pm, one Nasiru and one Sumaila aged between 15 and 20, sustained some injuries. Nasiru was allegedly hit by the butt of a gun by an unknown person and Sumaila was firing a musketry and the wooden part exploded and he sustained severe burns on his hands. Also at Lamashiegu, one Iddrisu Abdul Rauf aged 20 was fired at by an unknown person”he narrated.
