Public Sector workers across the country will now enjoy 10 percent increase in basic salary under the Single Spine Pay Policy.
This was revealed by the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Haruna Iddrisu, on Eyewitness News on Friday.
“The Fair Wages Salaries Commission, the Trades Union Congress and other unions met today to finalise and conclude negotiations on base pay and salary negotiations for fiscal year 2015. I am happy to announce that across board public sector workers will enjoy 10 percent increase in basic salary on the Single Spine Pay Policy on a relativity of 1.7%,” said the Minister.
The Minister indicated that the increment will take effect from January, 2016 .
He said government will ensure that both public and private companies, comply with the new increment.
“Employers, private and public must ensure strict compliance to the new directive.”
Increase in minimum wage
The Minister revealed that government together with its social partner workers have also concluded negotiations on the national daily minimum wage which has increased from 7 cedis to 8 cedis.
“Government and its social partners have also concluded negotiations on the national daily minimum wage which has increased from 7 cedis to 8 cedis which means one hour so to speak,” he said.
He described government’s move to increase both the daily minimum wage and salaries of public sector workers as a “historic feat”, adding that “government has been unable to achieve that in many years.”
According to him, government has also finalised negotiations on category 2 and 3 allowances for public sector workers who are on the Single Spine Pay Policy.
