The Bongo Police command in the Upper East Region,  have mounted a search for a woman who dumped her one-day-old baby girl in a bush near Ananfomisi clinic in Bongo.

The baby was wrapped in a polythene bag and dumped in the bush in the early hours of Wednesday.

The baby, whose mother is yet to be identified, sustained some bruises and was rushed to the Bongo District Hospital where she is currently responding to treatment.

But management of the hospital told Citi News the baby will be referred in due course to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICO) at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital for urgent medical attention.

Meanwhile the Bongo District Police Commander ASP Paul Archibaed Ankan, told Citi News he has  dispatched enough men to investigate the matter and arrest of the perpetrator.

“This morning [Wednesday], an information was given to us by the in-charge of the Ananfomisi clinic Hajia Mary Issaka, that a certain lady has drowned a day-old baby girl behind  Ananfomisi clinic, so I dispatched Police  men to the scene and indeed it was true. The baby was concealed in a polythene bag and drowned away but fortunately the baby was not dead; so she was taken to the Bongo hospital for treatment. The Police is currently investigating the matter and when we get the perpetrator we shall put her before court,”  ASP Ankan stated.
