The Nkoranza Police have arrested two robbers for stealing 29 goats and two sheep at an undisclosed area.
Nana Kofi Agyekum Kumi, 43 and Kwadwo Tease, 42, were arrested on Thursday by a Community Neighbourhood Watchdog Committee (CNWC) at Ayerede near Nkoranza in the Brong-Ahafo Region.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Joseph Owusu, said the suspects were travelling in a Nissan pick-up vehicle with registration number AS 554-13 from Ejura in the Ashanti Region with the animals.
A CNWC at Aperede, also near Nkoranza had on Thursday attempted to arrest the suspects but the driver ignored the signal to stop and sped off, he said.
DSP Owusu said in their attempt to free themselves from the Ayerede CNWC, the suspects fired a gunshot and the members of the Committee also replied by shooting at one of the tyres of the vehicle but the suspects managed to drive away.
The group chased the suspects with motor-bikes and eventually found them on one of the streets in the Nkoranza township as the vehicle was stuck in a mud due to a downpour the previous day, the Police Commander added.
The Police have asked owners of the stolen livestock to report to the Police Station for identification and collection.
