Some youth of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Bunkprugu Yunyoo constituency of the Northern Region, have petitioned the party’s national leadership, calling for the disqualification of one of the parliamentary aspirants, Joseph Yaani Labik, a former MP.

Joseph Yaani Labik is among parliamentary aspirants in the Bunkprugu constituency whose vetting was suspended for investigations following the petition filed against him.

[contextly_sidebar id=”4tIEeutVHTHBgGHRNzlVquVxUjiAxPka”]The Concerned NDC Bunkprugu Youth group Secretary, Laar Baman in an interview with Citi News said Joseph Yaani Labik is ineligible to contest the November 7 primaries because he rejoined the party in 2013.

“We are just asking the national executives to allow the NDC constitution to also work in the Bunkprugu constituency without further delay. Information we gathered suggested that the constituency Chairman is the brain behind all these things with some  big people in the party trying hard to ignore  the party’s constitution because they consider us as ignorant members.”

Laar Baman recalled that Joseph Yaani Labik won the Bunkprugu seat in 2004 as an independent candidate and pitched camp with then NPP in power.

“Why does the party think Hon. Joseph Yaani Labik is the most credible candidate after leaving the party for several years? After roaming and not finding his way clear, the party now intends to impose him on us. That’s a violation of the does NDC constitution?”

He cautioned the party’s national leadership against any attempt to impose Joseph Yaani Labik on them as the 2016 Parliamentary candidate.

“Should the party fail to apply the constitution to the letter and allow Hon. Labik to contest; we can assure you that there will be pandemonium in the constituency and the party risks losing both the Presidential and Parliamentary elections in 2016.”
