The 2016 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Akuffo Addo has justified the sale Ghana Telecom to Vodafone.
[contextly_sidebar id=”yyCUuXqCNfvWkVHacLy6lEJRBqnq80cU”]According to Nana Addo Ghana Telecom had to be sold because it was inefficient at the time.
Ghana Telecom was solely owned by government before 70 percent was sold to Vodafone.
It was sold during Former President John Agyekum Kuffour’s regime to Vodafone International Holdings B.V. for $900 million.
The sale at the time generated a lot of debate from civil society and political parties like the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) and current ruling government the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Speaking on the Citi Breakfast show Nana Addo insisted the sale was right.
‘Ghana telecom was a very inefficient company you and I know that.
A lot had been tried and done but….we need to speak the truth if a company is not efficient have them to go, it would have been the best to have Ghanaians who have the capacity to buy but we didn’t at the time’.
Nana Addo called on the government to create the enabling environment to help entrepreneurs thrive.
