Two months after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) called for a new voters’ register, the party’s flagbearer Nana Akufo Addo has called for calm, saying the new Electoral Commissioner boss, should be given time to settle down.

The chairperson of the EC, Charlotte Osei had since her appointment been inundated with calls from the NPP and the Let My Vote Count Alliance for a compilation a new register before the 2016 general elections.

[contextly_sidebar id=”sOElkNtwxEhhbCDbWgpcrCT00v05lLBq”]The NPP led by Nana Addo’s running mate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, presented findings to show that about 76,286 foreigners and minors are in the current register.

However, speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Monday, Nana Addo said he believes Charlotte Osei will make the right decision on the matter.

“As far as I’m concerned, especially the new chairperson of the Electoral Commission, we all need to give her an opportunity to settle down. Three, four months since her job, she has still not settled down and having to deal with very important issues from the gecko. I’ve heard that she has an open mind on the issues that are before her table are true and that, at the end of the day, she is going to make up her mind based on the evidence that has been assembled about the register and other reforms about the system,” added Nana Addo.

He also encouraged Charlotte Osei to maintain that open mind but also hasten the processes to bring closure on the calls for a new voters register.

“If you decide that you are going to get a new voters register, it comes with several steps and the sooner that decision is made so that the country is properly prepared for 2016, the better. She’s set out a road-map. I hope that if it is possible for that road-map to be quickened but for the time being, I think that it is right for all of us to give her the opportunity to lead us, hopefully on the right part. Because we all know how important the issues she has to deal with are and for myself I’m prepared to give her the benefit of the doubt,” he added.
