The Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Haruna Iddrisu has revealed that government has increased the national daily minimum wage from GH¢7 to GH¢8.

Haruna Iddrisu made the revelation on Eyewitness News on Friday.
He said salaries of public sector workers have also been increased by 10 percent.
“The Fair Wages Salaries Commission, the Trades Union Congress and other unions met today [Friday] to finalise and conclude negotiations on base pay and salary negotiations for fiscal year 2015. I am happy to announce that across board public sector workers will enjoy 10 percent increase in basic salary on the Single Spine Pay Policy on a relativity of 1.7%,” said the Minister.
He added that the increment takes effect from January 2016.
He said government will ensure that both public and private companies, comply with the new increment adding that “Employers, private and public must ensure strict compliance to the new directive.”
The Minister described government’s move to increase both the daily minimum wage and salaries of public sector workers as a “historic feat,” adding that “government has been unable to achieve that in many years.”
According to him, government has also finalised negotiations on category 2 and 3 allowances for public sector workers who are on the Single Spine Pay Policy.
