Anas cancels Kumasi screening

The public showing of the judicial corruption scandal video in Kumasi has been called off.

Anas in a brief statement on his Facebook page said “we have just been served with a writ here in Kumasi seeking to injunct us from the Ashanti Regional screening of Ghana In The Eyes Of God.”

Investigative Journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas and his Tigereye PI team had scheduled to screen the video today at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Kumasi but was called off following a suit by one of the indicted judges, Justice Paul Uuter Dery.

“I want to tell the great people of Kumasi that I am terribly sorry for this development. I will urge all  of you who have travelled from far and near for this eventful night here In the Garden city to remain calm, we are putting measures in place for another day. Sorry for any inconvenience once more. Let’s all join hands in enhancing our democracy,” he added.

Justice Paul Uuter Dery had filed a contempt suit against the Golden Tulip Hotel [Kumasi], Tigereye PI and Ultimate FM over their intention to show the corruption scandal video in the region.

Justice Dery is seeking the following reliefs:

1. A declaration that the intended public screening of the contents of the audio visual recordings to the public by the 1st and 2nd Defendants at the 3rd Defendant’s facility is prejudicial to the Plaintiff’s right to a fair hearing.

2. A declaration that the 1st Defendant obtained the contents of the audio visual recordings unlawfully.

3. A perpetual injunction restraining the Defendants, their privies, assigns and whosoever from carrying out any public screening of the said illegally and unlawfully procured audio visual recordings at any time.

4. A perpetual injunction restraining the 1st and 2nd Defendants, their privies, assigns and whosoever from carrying out any public screening of the said illegally unlawfully procured audio visual recording.

5. A perpetual injunction restraining the 1st and 2nd Defendants, their privies, assigns and whosever from ever publishing or causing to be published the content of the said illegally and unlawfully procured audio visual recordings through any media platform howsoever described including social media.

6. An order restraining the Defendants, their privies and assigns from carrying out the intended public screening of the said illegally and unlawfully procured audio visual recordings on the 2nd October 2015.

An order prohibiting the 1st Defendant, as the primary custodian and copyright holder to the audio visual recordings, its agents, privies and assigns from releasing same to various social media outlets.
7. Cost including legal fees.

8. Any other order (s) that the Honourable Court may deem fit to make.
