Anti-graft body, the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC) is asking government to provide adequate security for investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas and his team.

“Government and the security agencies must immediately ensure that the safety and security of Anas and his team, as well as all other individuals involved and their families are assured.”

[contextly_sidebar id=”1p2S7fTQc6GpTC4efmQIoa5HnTVe8cWD”]GACC in a statement additionally commended Anas and his team for a good work done after they captured 34 judges and some judicial staff, allegedly taking bribes.

The scandal has caused a massive shakeup in the judicial service while 22 of the judges have been suspended, pending further investigations.

“It is in this light that, GACC commends the unrelenting efforts by Mr. Anas Aremeyaw Anas and his Tiger Eye team for their continuous expose´ of corruption in key sectors of the Ghanaian society over the years,” GACC stated.

Corruption in judiciary worrying

According to the anti-graft body, they find the scandal worrying “because the matter borders on the integrity of the judiciary, one of the most important and respected institutions in our fight against corruption.”

“It is important to note that acts of corruption are conducted in secrecy and therefore any effort aimed at documenting empirical evidence that bridges the gap between the perception and the reality of corruption is a tremendous contribution to stemming the tide against the canker.”

GACC among other thing also warned political parties to desist from politicizing the matter explaining that “corruption has no partisan colours.”
