Some political pressure groups hoping to demonstrate and picket at the Electoral Commission (EC) and Parliament on Wednesday, cannot do so anymore.

This is because an Accra Circuit Court has issued a restraining order after the Police sought an injunction to bar the groups from protesting at the premises of those institutions.

[contextly_sidebar id=”bulTMr3cnDTnutB6WBUVsRaS7hqHk37T”]A statement issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Accra Police Command said the court however allowed the organisers to converge on the Accra Hearts of Oak Park and present their petition.

Proposed routes

The court also gave proposed routes that the various groups are expected to be picket at.

The proposed routes are from Obra Spot, through GCB towers on the Kwame Nkrumah Avenue to Fiasco Traffic Light, TUC, EOCO to Atta Mills High Streets and finally to Hearts of Oak.

The statement further indicated that the Police have made adequate preparations to provide protection for protesters and also manage traffic to ensure a “smooth movement.”

“The Accra Regional Police Command, is therefore calling on the organisers of the event and the general public to cooperate with the Police for a peaceful event.”

The demonstration is aimed at demanding a new voters register for the 2016 elections.
