Its a start. Apparently, the process of acquiring a passport has been decentralised. However, only the head office (in Accra) still has the mandate to process and issue the passport. So for eg. if you submit your form at the Tamale office, your documents have to be sent to their office at Ridge to be processed and then returned to Tamale when it’s ready. One step forward, two steps backwards i would say. This desire to centralise most of the process, doesnt only slow processing times but is among the major reasons why people find ‘other’ means to hasten the process – bribing staff (but also some staff demand more than ‘a thank you’ for their service, if you know what i mean.
