The Neuro-Surgical Department of the Korle Bu teaching hospital will now be able to perform more surgeries and save more lives.
The unit has received a second electrosurgical machine to add to the already existing one.
This was made possible when the Royal bank visited the facility on Tuesday to donate a new electrosurgical machine to the department.
Over the years, the facility has been operating with just one machine; a situation doctors there said did not help them work effectively.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the department, a consultant for pediatric neurosurgery, Patrick Bankah expressed gratitude to the Royal bank for heeding to their call.
“Basically what this does is, it helps us to stop bleeding when we are operating and when it is not available we cannot do surgery at all. We have two theatres and it’s important that we have two of these machines to be able to serve our patients well. We are grateful to the Royal bank for giving us this necessary life-saving gift.”
The department operates on patients with brain tumor, accidents, infections etc.
Meanwhile, in an interview with Citi News, the Senior Vice President for Strategic Planning, Research and Corporate Affairs at Royal bank, Dr Kwame Baah-Nkuakoh said the bank will continue to provide it’s corporate social responsibilities to support other departments through its .
“Our MD has benefitted from the single one that used to be here years ago. We felt that if no one had provided that, his life couldn’t have been saved. We then thought it would be wise to get another one to save more lives.”
He also disclosed that his outfit will soon adopt one of the departments of the hospital to provide help whenever the need arises.
He also encouraged other corporate and individuals to replicate their gesture.
