Samsung has launched in New York, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Samsung Galaxy Note 5 smartphones.

The S6 Edge+ is a larger version of the S6 Edge launched earlier this year, while the Note 5 offers the same specifications plus the S Pen stylus for writing on the screen.

The S6 Edge+ comes with a bigger 5.7-inch screen with QHD resolution and increased RAM of 4 GB, compared to 3 GB on the S6 Edge.

It also runs Samsung’s Exynos 7, 64-bit processor and comes with a choice of 32 or 64 GB storage, but has no memory card slot.

The S6 Edge+ features a 16 megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilisation and a 5 megapixel front camera, as well as wireless charging, fast charging and an ‘ultra’ power-saving mode.

The same as the standard S6 Edge, the plus version has a fingerprint scanner and heart rate monitor.

The fingerprint authentication can be used with the Samsung Pay service, planned to launch soon in Korea and the US.

Samsung also presented the Galaxy Note 5, the latest in its phablet range.

Thinner than its predecessor, with a metal and glass body, the Note 5 has the same specifications as the S6 Edge+, while adding the S Pen stylus of the Note range and losing the curved-edge screen on the S6 Edge.

The S Pen was upgraded to feel more solid and balanced in the user’s hand and offers new features such as note-taking even when the phone screen is off.

Both phones will start rolling out in the US from 21 August, while the S6 Edge+ will launch in Europe and Asia in early September.

The S6 Edge+ will be available in the colours black sapphire and gold platinum and the Note 5 in black sapphire and white pearl. AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile US and US Cellular all confirmed they will carry the phones, as will the retailers Best Buy, Amazon, CostCo, Sam’s Club, Target and select Walmart stores. Samsung also confirmed that Samsung Pay will start in the US in September.
