Over 100 residents of Fuvemeh, in the Volta Regional town of Keta have been displaced as result of tidal waves that swept through the village on Saturday.
The waves, which are reported to have begun late in the afternoon, are believed to have destroyed about 50 houses.
A resident in the area, Frank Torblu told Citi News: “The situation is very dangerous, The sea is washing away many houses from the place.”
There have been no reports of human casualties so far but the residents, fearing that other villages might be at risk, have appealed to the National Disaster Management Organization to come to their aid.
“No life has been lost. The disaster happened during the day and the people had time to relocate. We have tried to reach the NADMO officials on the line but we haven’t been able to so far,” Mr. Torblu added.
This is the second time in the space of five months that the people of Keta have had their houses destroyed by tidal waves.
In February , Hundreds of residents of Horve Havedzi were displaced in what the people lament, has become an annual ritual in the area.
