The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has mounted a spirited defence over its demands in a leaked documents outlining a list of conditions of service, describing it as legitimate.
The doctors are among other things demanding clothing and fuel allowances and on-call duty allowance.
Their request has been described by many Ghanaians as unreasonable while others have also say they claim they have been influenced by the opposition NPP to make those demands.
Speaking to Citi FM’s Richard Dela Sky, the General Secretary of the GMA, Frank Serebour however emphasized that their demands has no political undertones.
“Just about three days ago , when the 91 doctors went to the Controller and Accountant General’s Department and they were paid within 24 hours-will you say all those doctors belong to the NPP?
“We should not side step those issues. The NPP in Parliament do they pay them monthly salary? Yes. Do they give them cars? Yes. Do they give them housing facilities? Yes. The issue is that do doctors deserve conditions of service or not.?That is the issue they should be addressing. The issue is about condition of service. It is not about NPP, NDC,” he stated.
