The outspoken Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna has declared zero tolerance for money scam known as “Sakawa” which has inundated the region.
According to him, the Sakawa Boys are promoting occultism which should be discouraged.
“I don’t think we should stand before the youth to justify any activities of any Sakawa Boys: what they do is occultism.”
Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna was addressing the 2015 International Youth Day celebration in Tamale where he affirmed his uncompromising opposition to the activities of the Sakawa Boys.
He has since his transfer to the Northern Region relentlessly been fighting against the “Sakawa” menace.
Alhaji Limuna called for deeper collaboration to eliminate the Sakawa boys.
“The normal thing that we knew about Sakawa was cyber crime that people go on the net and try to cheat people: even that will you ask me a regional minister to regulate stealing? That is not the way to go.”
Alhaji Limuna revealed the confession of a Sakawa Boy who visited him with a Muslim Cleric.
“One of them came to me with a Mallam confessing that they went in for this juju and they are struggling to get it out but they cannot go: he said they have the spirits visiting them around 12 midnight and the only thing they take is blood.”
He added, “They recruit young ladies to produce their menstrual period for them to use to feed their spirits and if they don’t get the young women to give them their blood then they have to resort to human blood: nobody should sanction the activities of any Sakawa.”
The Sakawa menace has astronomically contributed to school dropout in the region.
The growing population of Sakawa Boys in the Tamale Metropolis has sky-rocketed the prices of motorcycles, Toyota Corolla ‘S’ saloon cars and android mobile phones.
Some of them who got intoxicated by their opulence at some point called for the renaming of one of the populous settlements in Tamale called Bilpela to ‘Malaga city’.
