President John Dramani Mahama has revealed that part of the 1.5 billion Eurobond loan government is sourcing from the international market will be used to complete the eastern corridor road.

He said this when he inaugurated the Fufulso-Sawla road in the Northern Region.

“The Minister of Finance will go onto the international market for the Eurobond loan which will be about one billion and part of that money is going to be applied to the eastern corridor road so that we can complete that road as early as possible.”

He has therefore tasked contractors working on the eastern corridor road to quicken their pace.

President Mahama was speaking in Damongo where he officially inaugurated the Fufulso-Sawla road in the Northern Region.

He reiterated his administration’s pledge to construct all weather roads in three regions of the north.

According to him, surplus money from the Fufulso-Sawla road project will be used to rehabilitate the Sawla-WA road.

Among other projects, President Mahama said government was constructing a new bridge to link Daboya to the Tolon district.

He however complained about road indiscipline `and implored the National Road Safety Commission to intensify advocacy on traffic regulations.

President of the African Development Bank, Dr. Donald Kaberuka promised that the bank will inject enough capital into the road sector to eradicate poverty in Ghana.

He urged residents of beneficiary communities along the Fufulso-Sawla road to take advantage of the project to increase their income levels.

Dr. Kaberuka commended government for promoting girl child education and thus admonished parents to place premium on it.
