The 91 junior doctors demanding the payment of their 11-month salary arrears have expressed shock at claims that they have not undertaken the biometric registration, a requirement for the payment of salaries.

The Director of Payroll at the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD), George Baah in an interview on Eyewitness News said his office cannot be blamed for the non-payment of the salaries of junior doctors.

We need to find out from them where they have gotten to in terms of the processing of their documents. For all you know, they may not have gone through the biometric process. It is a pre-condition for being on the mechanized payroll,” he said.

The spokesperson for the 91 junior doctors, Dr. Nana Kissi Atafah in an interview with Citi News cautioned Mr. Baah to desist from peddling falsehood.

He described George Baah’s claims as inaccurate, adding that all the necessary processes had been completed.

“We have the document to show that as far back as the ending of May, we went through our biometric registration process and they told us that the biometric registration forms have been submitted to their department and they will pay us at the end of June. That necessitated the strike when we hadn’t been paid,” he narrated.

He also recounted that about five days ago, the leadership of the 91 doctors were in a meeting with Mr. Baah in which they showed him the list “so it comes as a bit of surprise and a shock that Mr. Baah would all of a sudden, out of nowhere come and say this. We actually do not understand his motivation.”

Dr. Atafah on behalf of the junior doctors issued a personal message to Mr. Baah.

Mr. Baah, you know the fact that 91 of us have not been paid. Yesterday, when we heard you speak, most of us were angered by your untruth which is unfair.

You should know that you are dealing with 91 doctors who have benefits somewhere and all these people are going to hold you in bad standing with the persistent lies and things that you are putting up.

Please, we are not interested in any political agenda; we are not interested in your post. If you are doing this just to protect yourself, just pay us our money.

If it wasn’t for this, you would not have come out on air to talk. We just want to get back to our work and just do everything peacefully so just pay us our money and stop this.

Stop this, just stop this! You are surprising us Mr. Baah.
