The Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly on Thursday demolished some buildings and structures in Aboabo- Asawasi in the Ashanti Region.
The demolition has become necessary following flooding in the area.

The Municipal Chief Executive of the area , Nureeden Hamidan, told Citi News that the assembly did not only notify residents ahead of the demolition but has met them to discuss the need for demolition.
“We asked the health department to come and asses the health situation and we also asked the environmental health officers to come. The report that came out of it was so damning that we needed to do something about it…Around September we wrote to them on the need to demolish the structures.”
The residents however say the Assembly only notified them just two days before the exercise.
“They notified us just two days ago. We thank God we got a place to put our fridge and other items. As of 5.30 this morning, they had started the demolition. If government thinks this is best for somebody what can we say?”an agitated resident quizzed.
Superintendent James Annor said no one had yet resisted the exercise since it began.
He said the Police will however ensure that it deals with anyone who disrupts the exercise.
” We are still monitoring and whoever wants to put a challenge, the security agencies will take that person up.”
The government has resorted to demolishing some buildings it considers to be constructed in waterways after the fire and flood disaster which killed over 150 persons.
