The Northern Regional Secretariat of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has assured all is set for the Parliamentary primaries scheduled for Saturday June 13, 2015.
The Electoral College comprises all constituency executives, the five-member council of elders, patrons, polling station executives and the electoral coordinators.
A total of 83 aspirants are in the race and only six are females, contesting the Tamale North, Damongo, Bole and Nalerigu constituencies.
The NPP can boast of 10 incumbent Members of Parliament in the Northern Region who are seeking reelection.
Seven of them including Deputy Minority leader and also the MP for Bimbila, Dominic Nitiwul and the Yendi MP, Alhaji Mohammed Habib Tijani are going unopposed.
The NPP Northern Regional Communications Director, Mohammed Abdul Kudus told Citi News the party expects a trouble-free primaries.
He said there will be Police personnel at the designated polling stations to regulate the conduct of people.
“To the rank and file of the NPP I can only wish that they repeat the very conduct that is known of them: we cannot guarantee a hundred percent incident free but I can assure that ninety nine percent of the polls will be incident free.”
Mohammed Abdul Kudus is optimistic that the NPP will come out more united.
The aspirants have intensified their campaigns ahead of the impending primaries.
One of the aspirants in the Tamale Central constituency, Barhama Anyass Baba Repairer commended the delegates for assuring him of their unflinching support.
He however kicked against some delegates’ decision to openly declare their support for him on air ahead of the polls.
He said such a move had the tendency of creating disunity in the party after the primaries.
Barhama Anyass Baba Repairer however appealed to the delegates to endorse his candidature to enable him wrestle the seat from Hon. Inusah Fuseini in 2016.
At the 2012 general elections, the NPP succeeded in maximizing its Parliamentary seats in the region from three to 10.
