The Talensi branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has now begun its parliamentary primaries to elect a candidate to represent the party in the 7th July By-election.
Voting, which was scheduled to commence at 10am began at 2:30pm on Sunday due to some challenges but the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) which is also holding its primaries is through with voting and counting is underway
The candidates contesting in the primaries are B.T. Baba, a 67-year-old retired prisons officer and former chairman of Ghana Olympics committee, Edward Awunnore, a 40-year-old District Chief Executive for Talensi and an educationist.
Also contesting are Rockson Aditiba, a 31-year-old businessman, Bazimwomit Charles Boazor, a 38-year-old public servant Asutifi-North assembly and James Store, a 52-year-old banker with the Bank of Ghana.
In all, there 74 polling stations and 22 electoral areas and a total of 698 delegates are expected to cast their vote.
All candidates have signed an undertaking not to go independent should any candidate lose.
Delegates have been cautioned not to take photos of candidates they have voted for.
Personnel from the Military and the Ghana Police Service are monitoring the exercise.
