The final funeral rites (ADUA) of the late New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Upper East Regional chairman, Mahama Adam will be held today [Sunday] at Bolgatanga.

His family has thus extended a hand of invitation to the party’s embattled National Chairman, Paul Afoko and General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong.

[contextly_sidebar id=”9ff8EiAoQKlBJTTMqQnB0s3cEBtIBXzx”]An elder of the family of the deceased, Rockson Bukari said: “The family is not against anybody coming to the funeral. We are only going to have a final ADUA for our late brother Adam Mahama and all members of the NPP across the country are at liberty to attend the funeral.”

He stressed that if the two national executives are willing to attend the ceremony, they can do so because “we cannot debar anybody from coming to the funeral and we cannot also deny anybody from coming. As a family we are ready to welcome anybody who comes to mourn with us.”

The family’s invitation comes on the back of threats issued by some party youth warning Afoko and Agyepong not to show up at the final ADUA.

According to them, some actions by the two national executives led to the murder of Adam Mahama.

Furthermore, about five party executives in the region were cautioned not to attend the ceremony.

Afoko and Agyepong were early on prevented from paying their last respects to Adam Mahama during his burial.

Mr. Bukari nonetheless told Citi News, all is set for the final ADUA which will take place at the Jubilee Park from 9:00am to about 1:00pm.

Mr. Bukari said the family is expecting the leader of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo, all NPP Parliamentarians, all regional chairmen of the party, members of the Council of Elders, all constituency and regional executives of the party as well as government delegation and the Upper East Regional Minister, James Zuugah Tiigah.

He added that in terms of security, the Police have assured the family of providing maximum protection throughout the ADUA.

Adam Mahama was killed through an acid attack about three weeks ago.

Two suspects including the younger brother of Paul Afoko have since been arrested and are facing prosecution in court.

His death plunged the party into turmoil but calm seems to be returning to the country’s largest opposition party.
