Accra floods bury offices along Graphic road

Scores of companies along the Graphic road have almost and in some cases been submerged by floods that hit Accra this morning June 4th, 2015.

accra flood (9)The torrential rains which started on Monday 1st June, 2015 has already claimed the lives of several people and destroyed properties worth millions of cedis.

accra flood (11)The Graphic road, which is home to a number of automobile companies and other firms almost every year experiences the brunt of flood waters gushing through their offices.

accra flood (19)Citi Business News’s Norvan Acquah Hayford who visited the area this morning reported that the story is no different this year.

accra flood (17)Companies that were affected by Thursday’s floods include Pepsi, Rana motors Toyota, inesfly, GHOne, Zenith bank and Hassanco enterprise.

accra flood (31)According to Board chairman of Inesfly Hayssam Fakry, whose premises has been taken over by the floods authorities must distill the odor river to avert the situation.

“it has been a disaster this time around, this is the first time we have all of our factory and offices flooded. I have experienced this kind of flood at least three or five times already and I can tell you that the problem has to do with the odor river which city authorities have failed to distill of dirt. The authority must ensure that gutters in our cities are clean to ensure that water can flow. The authorities know what to do and the odor river must cleaned otherwise it will happen again. People are dying and we know what to do.”

accra flood (25)In 2011 the automobile industry alone in Ghana posted an estimated loss of over GH¢50 million due to floods that hit Accra and other parts of the country at the time.
