Scores of defaulting customers of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in the Volta Region, last week thronged the various cash collecting points to settle their electricity bill arrears.
[contextly_sidebar id=”KV9Asan4df2ftw7NPS6C3HnCfBEecItM”]This was in reaction to a massive house-to-house revenue mobilization drive by management and staff of ECG in the region, dubbed “operation pay your bills.”
The one week exercise was simultaneously carried out in all 11 districts in the region.
The staff of ECG impressed on defaulting customers to settle their bills promptly to avoid disconnection.
Speaking during the exercise, the Volta Regional General Manager of ECG, Ing. Joseph Mensah Forson described the exercise as highly successful and expressed satisfaction at the level of co-operation from residents in the region.
He advised the residents saying, “customers do not have to wait to be threatened with disconnection of services before they rush to pay bills. We are uncomfortable as a service provider, taking this action but paying bills promptly is what helps the ECG to improve the quality of services to our consumers.”
He stressed the resolve of ECG’s management to retrieve all amounts owed the company by individuals, public and corporate organisations.
The revenue mobilization drive is a periodic exercise undertaken by the ECG, to impress on defaulting customers to settle their bills promptly while its staff also takes the opportunity to have one-on-one interactions with customers.
Senior management members from the Head Office of the ECG who participated in the exercise included the Director, Materials and Transport, Ing. Alhaji D. A. Jangu and the Director of ICT, Mr. Ronald Boadi (who are both the ‘oversight Directors’ of the ECG Volta Region) as well as the General Manager, Corporate Planning, Mr. Kivlyn Asante.
In a related development, the ECG has cut power supply to some public and health institutions in the country over failure to settle their debts.
ECG has defended the exercise saying it will enable them recover all outstanding debts owed them by their customers.
