Some angry members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper East region on Thursday, beat up the party’s regional organizer, Jerry Asamani for organizing a meeting for National Chairman and General Secretary, without the knowledge of the regional chairman.
[contextly_sidebar id=”xNMCprTz7hysR62C9rqHqPG6Xf6kEmzl”]The two NPP national executives, Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong were scheduled to meet six constituency party executives from each of the 15 constituencies in the region.
But upon hearing of the said meeting, the regional chairman, Mahama Adam, led a group of party members to storm the meeting venue; the Azumsulum Guest House.
Mr. Adam accused Afoko and Agyepong of bypassing him as the regional head of the NPP by calling on the regional organizer, Jerry Asamani to set up the meeting without his notice.
A scuffle ensued as the angry party youth beat up Jerry Asamani and also allegedly slapped a Metro TV reporter, who was filming the incident.
The matter was reported to the Bolgatanga Municipal Police who intervened to restore calm and order.
The Municipal Police Commander subsequently held a closed-door meeting with Afoko and Agyepong and later escorted them to their hotels.
