Communications director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper East Region, Edward Awuni has stated that the party’s Regional Chairman should not be blamed for the ordeal Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong encountered on Thursday.
[contextly_sidebar id=”xhbbfFUDU9aWWJ1zIpznVfhXNmcc6TJc”]NPP’s National Chairman, Paul Afoko and his General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong were chased out by some NPP youth during a meeting in the region.
The youth reportedly took the decision because they claimed the party’s regional chairman was not informed of the meeting.
They also physically assaulted the party’s Regional Organizer, Jerry Asamani for organizing the said meeting without his boss’ approval.
Upper East chairman wasn’t aware of meeting
Speaking on Eyewitness News, Edward Awuni insisted that the Upper East Regional Chairman, Mahama Adam was not aware of the meeting hence cannot be blamed.
“All that I can say is that once he is the landlord of the region, he needs to be adequately informed that this is what will happen and then the rest of the preparation will take place. But he said he is not aware and that’s all, so nobody can hold anybody responsible,” he said.
He advised the national leadership of the NPP to follow due processes when embarking on such exercises.
“Next time we should learn to respect the structures, that all. If I’ve been sent to a constituency, they need to tell the chairman of that constituency that I am coming to do ABCD so if they did not inform chairman, really that they have caused their own trouble,” he said.
Afoko and Agyepong must sit up!
Mr Awuni also called on Afoko and Agyepong to sit up and ensure that peace prevail in the party.
“I think its high time the national chairman and general secretary sat up and then ensure that things are done the right way. There is confusion here and there, you don’t want to be a leader over these confusion and yet this is what we are experiencing and I’m sad about it.”
