Fire on Sunday evening gutted a fuel filling station at Kokode, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

[contextly_sidebar id=”cW0kDpeLxiQXwHHbX0DN0lUFVsOs2dVg”]The fire according to an eyewitness who called the fire service started around 6pm.

He told Citi News that they saw the fire as the fuel tanker with registration number GT 6633 13 was emptying its content into the underground tank of the station known in local parlance as “Gawo gawo.”

Two taxi cabs with registration numbers AW 1751 Z and GR 818 P, both of Toyota brands also got burnt in the process.

Speaking to the Metro fire commander, DO3 Ricahrd Atta Kumi said that the fire service personnel reached the site around 7pm right after residents had made a call to the office.

He could not state specifically the worth of the damage.

He confirmed the death of two children who were sleeping in a wooden structure near the station.

Investigations are underway to establish the cause of the accident.
