The National Leadership of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has directed the Ashanti Regional branch of the party to suspend the upcoming Parliamentary primaries in three constituencies in the Region.

[contextly_sidebar id=”8MXWRdq9AtJoMKWZjO55GMNtaNidJBFD”]They want the Kumawu, Juabeng and Manhyia North Parliamentary primaries to be suspended following a court ruling that ordered a re-election of the party executives for those constituencies.

Speaking to Citi News, Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NPP, Samuel Payne confirmed receipt of the directive.

He was however quick to add that prospective candidates can still pick their nomination forms while the party in the region awaits the solution to the issues involved.

“We have that directive from the national secretariat, which signed by the General Secretary and copied to the regional chairman, myself and the constituency.”

Samuel Payne explained that “When we had polling station [and] constituency elections in these three constituencies, some aggrieved persons took the party to court over matters that they were not satisfied with the conduct of the election.”

“Picking up nomination forms doesn’t constitute an election so if they pick the form, they can complete the form, when we start with the process of election that is where it matters. So once it is stalled…we are going to vary the dates for these constituencies so that all other matters will be settled,” he added.
