Northern NPP executives meet over Parliamentary primaries

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Northern Regional Executive Committee has begun series of strategic meetings to win more seats in the Northern Region during the 2016 general elections.

The maiden edition brought together regional executives, constituency Chairmen and their Secretaries, regional council of elders, the 10 NPP northern Members of Parliament and some members of the National Executive Committee.

They comprehensively discussed mapped out a plan to win 15 additional Parliamentary seats in the Northern Region.

The outspoken NPP Northern Regional Chairman, Daniel Bugri Naabu described President John Dramani Mahama as “Expired goods” who should be rejected in 2016.

Comparing the Nigerian elections which produced General Buhari as the President-elect, he posited that the Ghanaian electorate would certainly show the Mahama-Amissah Arthur led National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration the exit in 2016.

“Neighboring Nigeria has spoken loud and clear that enough is enough and I know that Ghana would follow suit come 2016 since the harsh living conditions among the ordinary citizens in Nigeria that characterized the just ended regime there is similar to what pertains in Ghana.”

“The ordinary Ghanaian is suffering a lot and would therefore see to an end their suffering by voting out the cause of their suffering which is the NDC government: Ghana and Nigeria are neighbors and there is a saying that whatever happens to the eyes surely affects the nose and vice-versa, Ghanaians will surely speak the language of the Nigerians come 2016.”

Daniel Bugri Naabu asserted that President Mahama lacked the political goodwill to fix the myriad socio-economic problems which have inundated the country.

Parliamentary primaries
Daniel Bugri Naabu called for clean Parliamentary contest to produce Parliamentary candidates who can attract floating voters.

He however suggested that negotiations should be made in constituencies where majority of party supporters have indentified winnable candidates.

This, according to him will save resources meant for organizing the Parliamentary contest for the 2016 campaigns.

Daniel Bugri Naabu said Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Ado would win the 2016 and would need majority in Parliament.

He acknowledged that unity and critical thinking were key elements in the party’s quest to wrestle power from the NDC in 2016.

Electoral Commission
He tasked the Electoral Commission to take a cue from the sterling performance of Nigeria’s Independent Electoral Commission.

“The Electoral Commission of Ghana should emulate the shining example of the Independent National Electoral Commission of Nigeria: the Commission in Nigeria demonstrated a high sense of impartiality and on that premise was able to deliver transparent, free, fair and credible elections that won the admiration and acceptance by the Nigerian people and I hope Ghana’s electoral Commission would do same this time round.”

Deputy Minority leader
Deputy Minority leader of Parliament, Hon. Dominic Nitiwul emphasized the need to select competent and affable people who can win more Parliamentary seats for the NPP in 2016.

He advised the delegates to eschew financial inducement and favoritism during the Parliamentary primaries.

The Bimbila Member of Parliament implored the party’s leadership at all levels to be neutral before, during and after the Parliamentary race.

He debunked claim that there was deep rooted factionalism within the NPP.

Hon. Dominic Nitiwul said President Mahama had nothing new to offer Ghanaians for which reason he should be kicked out of office in 2016.

He extolled the 10 NPP northern MPs for their exemplary leadership in Parliament.

Yendi MP
The Member of Parliament for Yendi, Hon. Alhaji Mohammed Habib Tijani described as laughable attempts by the NDC to cause his defeat in 2016.

He said the NDC had a long way to go so far us the Yendi seat is concerned.

Alhaji Habib Tijani told Citi News he was well connected in the constituency and his constituents were proud of his performance.

He regretted that the NDC won the Yendi seat in 2008 and promised that such history would never repeat itself.

He mentioned the construction of feeder roads, school projects, health facilities and scholarship packages for needy but brilliant students in his constituency as some of his achievements which would inform the Yendi constituents’ decision to retain him in 2016.

Hon. Alhaji Mohammed Habib Tijani was the NPP’s Yendi constituency Secretary from 1992 to 2001.

President Kufuor appointed and retained him as the Yendi Municipal Chief Executive for two consecutive terms.
