The Northern Regional Branch of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) has said it cannot take any disciplinary action against the Member of Parliament for Nantong, Murtala Mohammed after his recent outburst against another unnamed NDC MP.
[contextly_sidebar id=”ABCXBsjndOZNMlE6m4mSHeQhxzLxwa8W”]There are fears within the party that the unfolding scandal may show signs of divisiveness within the party in the region which may affect the fortunes of the party in that region.
The Northern Regional Secretary of the NDC Khalid Rauf however said, “The statement that he made has no impact on our political fortunes in the region.”
The Nantong legislator accused his colleague MPs from the Northern region of plotting to unseat him in 2016.
The MP who refused to disclose the name of his so-called saboteur exploded on Tamale based Diamond Fm in an interview.
“Someone who said to three people, Murtala has not incurred my wrath I simply don’t want him to succeed: I just don’t want him to succeed in life.”“Are you God, who are you,” the angry Nantong legislator fumed.
He further alleged that the said MP hired a lady to take nude pictures of a Cabinet Minister.
Speaking on Eyewitness News, Rauf said even though the Regional Executive Committee of the party in the region has an oversight responsibility over political activities in the region, it cannot take any action until the President gives a directive.
“It is the prerogative of the President to decide who he should kick out of government. If the President thinks that what Murtala said on air is something that warrants that he should be removed as a Minister that is left to the President…”
Meanwhile the National Youth Organiser of the NPP, Sammy Awuku has challenged Murtala to reveal the particular Minister he was referring to.
“Murtala Mohammed is a courageous minister and I urge him to reveal the person who he is talking about,”he said.
