Angry students of the Kumbungu Senior High School (SHS) in the Northern Region want the school’s headmaster replaced.
They went on a peaceful demonstration in Kumbungu and finally petitioned the Ghana Education Service, the District Chief Executive and the Chief of Kumbungu on the headmaster’s conduct.
According to them, the headmaster, Francis Tia Dokurugu’s “inefficiency” is contributing to the poor performance of students.
They further posited that the headmaster was at loggerheads with the teaching staff.
The students accused the appointing authorities of renewing Tia Dokurugu’s contract after his retirement.
Kumbungu Senior High School is considered as one of the deprived second cycle institutions in the country.
The school lacks infrastructural development and the major concern is students’ dormitory and staff accommodation.
Similar incidents have been recorded in the past where a school in the Sawla Tuna Kalba district, in the Northern region was closed down on the 12th of February 2015, after students demonstrated, because a male teacher allegedly ordered a female student to strip naked for dressing inappropriately.
The students also destroyed the school bus, took three computers from the computer laboratory and also made away with about 100 mattresses belonging to the school.
