The Agbogbomefia of Ho Asogli State and Chairman of Sonun Asogli Togbe Afede XIV has dismissed suggestions the recent agitations by the youth in Kpone will scare away potential investors in Ghana’s power sector.
The youth in Kpone recently went on rampage, destroying properties in the area.
[contextly_sidebar id=”bLlSnIFfTkFhqxy1bOtQqSNHKfvSLliv”]They said they are yet to benefit from the Asogli Plant in the area and also questioned why the company had not yet employed residents in the area.
In an interview with Citi Business News, Togbe Afede however explained that recent incident will have no effect on investors in the region.
He explained that the incident was due to a breakdown in communication between him and residents in the area.
“Infact every country has this kind of issues with local stakeholders. You will see that in the most advanced countries of this world, where projects that are being undertaken affects certain local interests and therefore the locals deserve certain concessions is not new,” he explained.
“Luckily with security agencies coming in nothing untoward happened and I don’t think it will have any effect at all…This is a problem that can happen anywhere”
Investors are protected
Togbe Afede’s assurance comes days after the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Afote Agbo assured investors operating in the area that their safety is assured.
He said the Kpone Kantamanso District Security Council has put in place measures to ensure their security.
“I’m assuring Asogli and other investors that we will protect their investment, lives and properties,” he stated.
